If needed, build your ground up with triple mix. We mix our triple mix here on-site to control what is in it.
Ensure your irrigation system installation is complete and fully functional before laying sod.
Amend your soil with 3-5 cubic yards of humus/compost per 1000 sq ft. 3 yards if your soil is easy to dig when dry, 5 yards if the soil is very coarse decomposed granite or compacted clay.
Spread humus/compost over moist soil and rototill to a depth of 8-12 inches. If your soil is heavier compact clay, apply gypsum at this time if needed. We don’t carry gypsum, but it is easily purchased at your local hardware store.
Rake the soil to the desired grade, removing rocks and breaking up clumps.
Roll your soil with a sod roller.
Alternate raking and rolling until the ground is level.
For faster rooting, apply starter fertilizer to the surface of the soil immediately before installing your sod.
Ensure soil is kept moist as you lay your sod, NEVER lay sod on dry soil.
